About Us

Young voters have historically low turnout rates in elections. At Young Gens Vote, we believe this to be caused by a systematic failure to educate young people on voting. Older generations have failed to teach us how to vote, where to register, how to find resources, and the overall importance of voting. We aim to fix this multi-generational, system-wide, failure to educate, teach and encourage young people to vote.

We know how powerful the votes from younger generations are. We know that young people today care about what is going on in our country and around the world, and that you are eager to act. At the same time, we know you haven’t been taught how. Our goal is to educate young people on voting, and all its intricacies, that school and the older generations, failed to teach us about.

Why Vote

A lot of people think that their vote doesn't matter and that they can't make a difference, they are wrong. In school we were often taught that we were so far removed from the system and that we can't make a difference, they taught us wrong. Others think that you have to be super involved in politics and what's happening in order to vote, they are also wrong.

Your vote matters, it does make a difference, and you can make a difference if you vote no matter how much you do or don't pay attention to politics and what's happening in the government.

Your rights, your future, the opportunities you have, and the way your country is run is decided by the outcome of every election.

There are so many more ways that elected officials will impact your lives and voting is your chance to choose how you want to live and the type of future, freedoms and opportunities that you want to have.

This is your opportunity to change things

Do you dislike the current leaders or how they've been doing things? Then vote them out!
Don't like the laws being passed? Vote new representatives in to make new/ different laws!
Are you sick of not seeing progress or change? Vote for people who will act!
Want to see new values in the government? Then vote in people with those values!

If you want to see change you have to make it. Voting is where you can begin.
Take the opportunity that is in front of you to make the change that you want to see in the world.

People dismiss young voters- prove them wrong.

People claim that young people today don't care, are unmotivated and are all talk. Prove them wrong by going out to vote.

Elections are when young people can turnout in waves to show that we are not to be dismissed, and we are not to be overlooked.
- Proving we are an influential voter base means that politicians will have to listen to us if they want to get elected, because young voters can be the difference on if they get elected or not.
It's time to show them the power of the young vote!
- Young voters have changed the outcome of elections before, so do it again.

Voting is your right

People fought for years to get the right to vote, and others are still fighting to make sure their vote gets counted.

People died and went to prison to ensure you would have the right to vote.
The voting age wasn't lowered to 18 until 1971 with the 16th Amendment of the Constitution.
- It was only recently that young people gained the ability to vote- so use it.
Voting rights and legal protections only began to be put in place during the 1960s. It was then that people began to try and make voting easier to do.
For generations many people did not have the ability to vote at all.

Don't disrespect or ignore the sacrifices of those that came before us. Honor them, their work and what they went through by exercising your right to vote.

If you don't vote, someone else will

People will go out and vote on Election Day, but the question is do you want them to decide who wins the election, and therefore decide how you get to live?

By refusing to vote you are putting your future into someone else's hands.
- The rights and opportunities that you have will be decided by someone else if you do not go out and vote yourself.
The outcome of an election will outlive the candidate's term in office.
- The decisions made by elected officials have impacts and effects that last for years and generations to come.
Everyday decisions are made on your behalf by elected officials.
- Make sure you have a say in who the elected officials are.
Voting only takes a few minutes.
- Take a few minutes out of your day and make sure that you vote to choose how you want to live.

Don't let anyone else dictate how you get to live your life without your input. Vote in every election to ensure your voice is heard and you have a seat at the table that makes decisions about your life, and the lives of those you care about.

Voting is how you hold politicians accountable

Elections are how you show what issues that matter to you, and the issues that politicians need to care about.

If you don't like who is in office, this is your opportunity to get them out of office and get someone better in.
If you are unhappy, dissatisfied, or dislike how your elected officials handled things, then vote go and vote to get them out of office. If they acted in ways that you do not like, then vote them out.
- Voting for someone else is how you demonstrate your dissatisfaction of them, their actions, their policy positions and their stances on issues.

There is not a more impactful way to hold politicians and elected officials accountable for their actions, or lack thereof, then to vote them out of office and vote someone new in.

Voting creates a more representative government

When more people vote, there is more diversity in the government and the public is better represented.

A more representative government means more diversity in the people representing you and more diversity in ideas.
- More diversity in people means that you will get people of all races, ethnicities, genders, sexualities and backgrounds.
- More diversity in ideas means that there will be more beliefs, values, opinions and thoughts discussed and represented.
  - You can get more creative solutions and ways to approach an issue/ topic because of this.
You will have people like you in government, and people that care about the things that you care about elected to office to form a more representative government.

A representative government is a diverse government that has people of all identities from all walks of life to create a government by the people, for the people.
